Year 6 at Upperthong.

As the final year in school and part of Upper Key Stage 2, Year 6 is where we end our journey through Primary School. We are now the oldest children in school and, like Year 5, we take pride in setting a good example and being excellent role models to the younger pupils.

At the moment, there are some spiffing topics that we get the opportunity to be a part of in Year 6. For example in the Autumn, we learn about World War 2 - life in the Battle of Britain - on the Home Front and out in the battlefields. We continue to develop  our sketching, sculpting and painting skills through war-inspired artwork. Oh yes.... we like to turn our talents to Strictly-style ballroom dancing!

In the Spring we have a geography and science topic based around Water - learning about important bodies of water around the world, then closer to home - with a look at how Yorkshire Water provides us with safe clean water to drink and use.

Written work has to wait a while in this term, as we head off on our activity-laden residential to Robinwood! More fun, jam-packed with outdoor and adventurous stuff - providing heaps of memories for us all! (especially the teachers!)

During the Summer term we have have to face the dreaded SATs - but with the effort we have put in during the year - these are usually a breeze!   After this, we can focus on our transition units for HHS, while learning about changes in life from the Stone & Bronze ages.

We like to go out with a bang - so that last half term is spent putting together an impressive leavers' show.... but we don't know what it will be until after our SATs!
